On Sunday July 13, 2008, Vice President Comrade Dr. Peter Phillips threw his hat into the ring, announcing his intention to challenge incumbent President Comrade Portia Simpson Miller. Comrade Simpson Miller said that though it was unprecedented for a sitting Party Leader to be challenged, she accepted it nonetheless and was ready for the contest. The People’s National Party is extremely concerned, at suggestions by the newly appointed Minister of National Security, the Hon Derrick Smith, as reported on TVJ News last night, Monday 17^th September 2007. In speaking to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lucius Thomas, the National Security Minister requested that he, Commissioner Thomas, should “investigate the effect of the tone” of the President of the People’s National Party in her address to the recent P.N.P. Excerpts from a letter send to the Prime Minister by the PNP

The People’s National Party says Prime Minister Bruce Golding’s first official act is a move in the wrong direction and a clear indication that he is not a man to be trusted, as his words are not matched by his actions.

PNP General Secretary Donald Buchanan, says before the general election, Mr. Golding gave several indications that his Cabinet would be smaller and leaner than those of the PNP administration.

In naming an eighteen member Cabinet, Mr. Buchanan says the newly sworn in Prime Minister, has already begun to erode whatever trust the public has in his word.

Mr. Buchanan says the eighteen member Cabinet named by Mr. Golding is among the largest ever to be named in Jamaica.

The PNP General Secretary says the nation needs to pay close attention to the other utterances of the Prime Minister while he was on the campaign trail and see how they match his actions.

As I indicated in an address to Party supporters at the People's National Party's Headquarters last night, I would today state my position on the close preliminary results of yesterday's general election and other electoral and constitutional issues.

The determination of the constitutional issues by the court, as well as the final count in all seats could have a bearing on the outcome of this election.

The People's National Party accepts the announced preliminary results, while reserving all legal rights under the Jamaican constitution and our electoral laws.

Full speed ahead, I am fully with Sista P and the PNP. The question I have being asking myself and others is that if Mrs. Portia Simpson-Miller was a man if these attacks on her would have being different and less hostile.

   People's National Party is going "full speed ahead" and whatever the poll says it is going to be a clean sweep for us.
