PNP Comments on New Cabinet Size

The People’s National Party says Prime Minister Bruce Golding’s first official act is a move in the wrong direction and a clear indication that he is not a man to be trusted, as his words are not matched by his actions.

PNP General Secretary Donald Buchanan, says before the general election, Mr. Golding gave several indications that his Cabinet would be smaller and leaner than those of the PNP administration.

In naming an eighteen member Cabinet, Mr. Buchanan says the newly sworn in Prime Minister, has already begun to erode whatever trust the public has in his word.

Mr. Buchanan says the eighteen member Cabinet named by Mr. Golding is among the largest ever to be named in Jamaica.

The PNP General Secretary says the nation needs to pay close attention to the other utterances of the Prime Minister while he was on the campaign trail and see how they match his actions.

    Mr Buchanan,
    Why dont you give the new adminstration an opportunity to sink or swim. it seems to me that now that you find yourself in opposition that you are attempting make an issue of every little thing. This is a non issue as far as I am concerned, and in no way errodes Mr Goldings credibility.Remember, your adimistration had 18 1/2 yrs; at the time of writing this the JLP cabinet has been sworn in for about 3 hrs.

    Well well, $66m cabinet and the Jamaican public is expected to dip into its pockets to fund Bruce Golding and his cronies. Three ministers of finance and a office of the Prime monster\minister that you can't even find space in. 33 member executive the biggest in the history of Jamaica. All this from a man who complained about the size of the PNP government. The parlimentarians have not had an increase since 2002 so with that due now what will the final cost of the cabinet be. Roger Clarke had warned us about the JLP raping us, now we are seeing it live and direct

    Oh Please Mr. Ah Lie dem Lie. I guess you have nothing better to do now that you and your corrupt party out in the wilderness. The man is no fool, and Omar couldn't have said it better, so sit down and watch Bruce work. Cabinet size is a non-issue, watch di driva. When him done wid this country, the PNP will only be a faint memory.

    I am so glad, elated, on top of the world happy Poorsha and her party gone go sid dung. God is in control, not Poorsha, with this abeng ting. Which now I hear may have brought her bad luck. To me it was an answered prayer.

    I am in the government service and for the first time I feel such pride being a civil servant. I hope they clean up the Public Service and send some of these politically appointed nonperformers to dem yaad. enough said.

    Danny Buck should be the last one to utter a word. His former constituency of south west St. Elizabeth has never had any representation since he first won the seat there in '89 or whenever. The PNP has so destroyed the country that Mr. Golding has no choice but to have that number of ministries. To group transport, water, works & housing into one ministry all in the name of limiting the number of ministries is fool-hardy on the PNP's part and obviously not in the best interest of the country. Mr. Golding has split that in two so that the people who elected them can receive proper representation. Our economy will finally start to grow once again although it is going to take some time to get going due to bad management by the PNP for almost 19 years. The people rejected you, so just and watch and learn (if you guys can) how the JLP administration is going to bring this country out of the mess that you people have put it in. To increase the debt from 32 billion to 968 billion in close to 19 years is a tragedy. What Danny Buck should be talking about is that and also the 15 billion dollars that has gone missing as soon as the PNP were booted from office.

    It is now time for the PNP to show the JLP up to be the capitalist pigs they really are. Not a party that Cares about the poor like they pretended to be to get votes.

    It is obvious that they have literally SOLD OUT to big business and that big business now has the direct telephone number of the government.

    In any other country the appointment of that obviously inexperienced un qualified business man to the cabinet would be a scandal.

    The PNP should point out the size and get the specific infornation of what Golding said about size before.

    And the PNP as opposition should now challenge the JLP to make some REAL social changes that would really change peoples lives... like increasing the minimum wage, decreasing the interest rate, increasimg the minimum amount of vacation to 35 days for ALL workers, a 40 hour work week for the police, and a instituting rent control to allow the middle class and poor be able to afford rent in Kingston and some of the other major towns.

    If the PNP is s STRONG opposition that points out the negatives with the JLP like the fact that Mr. Shaw can not manage his own finances much less the country's backra massa will only have at the MOST one term in office...

    Time for the PNP to UNITE and to MOVE FULL speed ahead to next election...

    PNP cant challenge on any of those points, as even the ones that are not inane, are an indictment on the 18year PNP Government.

    What were they doing for 18 years if all these so-called ills exists?

    The post by Tanya is completely illogical and betrays a lack of critical thinking.

    Note to Tanya, it's not about which party you "like". It is about who performs well for JAMAICA. I am prepared to support any enterprise that brings progress to Jamaica. If the PNP can wheel and come again in the Spirit of NORMAN Manley, then we can talk...otherwise, tek weh yuhself for good!

    Do any of you have an idea what First world means?/ I seriously ask, as it is clear you dont have a clue. I am not trying to be disrespectful, but to me its clear that you have no basis of comparison.

    As for the Ministry of Finance...Wehby is NOT paid by the Govt, as can be read in any newspaper and Nelson is NOT in the Finance Ministry. Please keep the facts straight.

    I honestly believe that this beating was good for Portia and that she will learn and improve and maybe finally understand the glaring gaps in her abilities. At least she appears to care, unlike PJ.

    Hello goodbye PJ,
    I think you need to get your facys stright, I read in yesterdays paper that he was given a leave of absence for two years, and is salary that he gets from the government will then be backup by grace ok, now what kind of government will we have if the minister is been paid by a private sector? we call that a lickie, lickie government. I can remember clearly Mr. Seaga saying in 1993 that the Government was in Bed with the private sector, can you remember, then what would you call this?.

    Mr IT Manager let me go a little before you because that goodbye PJ has no clue what it is to move closer to the frist world. It was the PNP who took use out of seven people been cram into on Taxi to four people in a taxi, I remember the days when if in most communitys in Jamaica you did not get to were you wanted to go on saturdays, you would be stuck on till monday. It was the PNP who allow the little man who was able to get a few U.S. dollars to open a account at the bank to save it, It was the PNP that allow the man in the street to own a motor care if not new its almost new, I remember the days when a low income worker even save the money he had to bye a old junk pay a whole lot of money to repair it before it was able to go on the road, now all honda and bmw is runing taxi. It was the PNP who allow the low income earner to own a house nomatter how small it is, I remember the days when people could not even fiend a place to rent now there are hundreds of houses up for rental because more and more people are able to buy there own homes. now there is a housing development here in Bontego Bay, it has over a thousand homes that you have to pay for even before it is built and all of them has been sold out, Now mr Good Bye PJ and Mr TuffGong what dose that tell you. remember you must be a lier to say other wise.

    LOL...The PNP went through 4 so-called Finance Minister till the hit upon the Geography Teacher who proceeded to turn Jamaica's Economy into one big Ponzi scheme.

    .... and don't lie it did not take one man, how many Consultants Scandal has the PNP just brushed aside?

    .... if things was so tight how come the whole deck of cards looks like it is about to fall on their collective heads.

    Remember it was recent PNP Administration that was accused of effecting the "most massive transfer from the poor to the rich in the history of Jamaica since slavery was abolished", what has been further described as a crash program for the rich.

    It was the greatest finance Minister in the world who said, of his creditors in Paris and Milan, that when it was time to pay them, they were not worried about how policemen were going to be paid in Jamaica all they were interested in was Jamaica’s ability to pay.

    Of course Comrade Omar could not build enough pit-toilets in his constituency nor stop the hundreds of murders of Comrades by Comrades dung deh
    So if that is what you and my fellow Comrades are most proud of then tek it!

    To answer our own questions, we must remind ourselves of the historical precedent which is being followed by Prime Minister Bruce Golding in making this appointment: In 1977, Prime Minister Michael Manley appointed R. Danny Williams directly from the private sector to become the Minister of Trade and Industry. R. Danny Williams at the time had been the president of Life of Jamaica. He was appointed first as Minister of State. Viv Blake resigned as Minister of Trade and Industry six months after taking office in the new political administration and Danny Williams became the first minister of government appointed directly from the private sector. Danny Williams served for three years and was paid by LOJ and drove a car that was provided by LOJ

The PM has been apealing for unity, and The Most Hon. one is still quarrelling. It seems to me that she is only "most honorable" in name only, as her behaviour doesnt befit honour

    For you obviosly uniformed radical JLP supporters most modern developed countries have at least 30 days minimum paid vacation. Countries like Germany and France have more. Moreover, several people in the Jamaican government service still receive 35 days vacation annually...

    Like I said the PNP should focus us showing up these laborites... free education, free health... well Mr. Bruce "dundus" Golding needs to realize that real generosity means changing the system so that people won't have their hands out... if he really wanted to help the poor he would have offerred free housing... Housing is one of the most basic needs and Mrs. Miller was committed to addressing that need...
    one has to wonder why these laborites spend so much time on the PNP site... I guess they are fishing for ideas...

    Hello little miss tanya aka "chat rubbish". for once i must say you spoke something that a little sense can be made out of. clearly you indicated that pnp was not united, now, having established the obvious and with your own words, why would anyone in their right mind want to have a non united party run their country? then again, there are those dunces out there such as yourself who have no problem with that, once is pnp.

    now, what i dont understand is why when pnp was in power and the country was in turmoil, you didnt open your big "chat rubbish" mouth and pressure pnp for better governing?? likewise that other dunce bat one name buchanan.

    did your savior party give you increased minimum wage and decreased interest rates?

    Mr IT Man,
    No direspect, but what first world status are you talking about? Mr Patterson had promised about 10 years ago that our GDP would be at the level of Barbados was then in ten years time. What has happened instead is massive debt. So unless the standard for measuring a first world nation has dropped I dont think you are right at all. Futhermore, in order to be first world, shouldnt we be producing and exporting something, so that the balance of trade doesnt have imports exceeding exports by as much as they do? First world my foot, what a laugh

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Unfortunately Comrade Poorsha is my Party Leader.
    I don’t know if Bruce thought he was telling the truth, the evidence does not support his statements in regards to both failures.
    Of course if you say Bruce is dishonest based on his assessment of the former PNP PMs, the same could be said of all the PNP MHR and Senators who stood up and gave glowing tributes to Eddie Blinds on his last day as Opposition Leader, after demonizing him for over 40 years.
    When last have you been to Jamaica? I guess it has been a long time ago. base on what you said about the distruction of the Jamaican Economy, now if you call getting rid of the IMF distroction, if you call giving people keys to there own homes distruction, if you call all of these highways that are now allowing goods and service to get from one point to another much faster distruction, if you call a moudern bus service distruction and I could go on and on, then it tells me you have hit your head or some thing.Comments (10)#20.1 errol on 2007-09-17 15:45 (Reply)
    Even First Day, Comrade Poorsha was telling us how common folks were suffering.
    On every Campaign Platform, she was @ pains to tell us how bad the Roads were, how poor people were, how the poor could not afford health care, etc.
    I apologize if I offended anyone when I referred to him as "DUNDUS", it is such an obvious nick name for him and I heard a man on the street with it and just could not resist the temptaion, I must say to his credit he did try to make up for his being aesthetically challenged with a stunning wife.
    The farce that Mr. Golding is a better leader that Mrs. Miller will soon be obvious to even the most radical JLP...
    It is so amusing to me when "brown" or "white" people cry racism in this country when it is obvious to every one who spends more than an hour in Jamaica that Jamaica is devided along colour and class and that the masses of the people the descendants of slaves who were kidnapped from their homes and literrally worked to death by a barbaric set of peopel who incidentally killed off the "native" peoples are still exploited and oppressed and discriminated against... I know because as someone who has recently moved to Jamaica, I can without hesitation say that money alone does not spare you from the sting of raciusm in this country... there is a culture of white elitism which is as obvious as the hot sun...
    Did the JLP kidnap any Jamaicans from their homes and worked them to death?
    I am aware that it was the Great Comrade Menlie who started the racist, shade-ist attacks on Jamaicans and PNP has never stopped it since.
    He was also instrumental in using terrorism on Jamaicans, kidnapping some and holding them against their will in Red Fence, others were killed @ Green Bay.
    So Comrade be careful of what you heng on to. More Comrades have been killed, maimed and injured under the PNP than any Government formed by any other Party in the History of Jamaica since slavery.
    Since Independence the last 18 years surely have been the worse for black skinned Jamaicans (other the genetically linked), even though PJoke was able to get away with his racist declaration that it was Black Man Thyme Now.
    The Motto of Jamaica remains:
    Look I lived in Jamaica. I was born and raised around East Central St. Andrew, South West St. Andrew and South St. Andrew, I spent all my days in Jamaica in those places, all the folks that I know are from those places.
    When they call here or others and I call there, we get constant requests for money to purchase arms. Not to kill Labourites, but to defend themselves from their fellow Comrades.
    Again this is a perfect example of depths the PNP collectively, has descended to.
    I hope Mr. G. will not make a similar mistake as Eddie Blinds did in the 80s and think that the Poorsha and her crew means Jamaica any good. That Today's PNP will be any more willing than the PNP of Menlie, to co-operate for the good of the country.
    The illiterate, racist, warmongers have captured the Party and the Country.
    It seems as if it has fallen to hands, heads and feet of Mr. G. & Co. to press their cause, no matter what the numbers are, to rescue Jamaica form the pits, so that Jamaica in time, can become the Singapore of the Caribbean rather than one big PainLand.
    TuffGong I have been asking you this one question still waiting an answer. Agovernment who has given more people a chance to own there own home, the facts more Jamaicans have keys to there own homes since 1992 than any other time in Jamaicas history. What do you call a government that has educated more people since 1990 then any other time in Jamaicas history, the facts more Jamaican have been able to learn a skill since 1990 than any other time in Jamaicas history, the PNP has been the leader in educating Jamaicans since having the rights to vote and if you wish to be honest you will admitt this but then again you are a labourite so I do not expect you to. more Jamaicans were able to own there motor vehicles since 1992 than any other time in Jamaicas history, if its even a brand new use car, it better than buying a hold junk to fix.more jamaicans were able to get real jobs since 1990 than any other time in Jamaica, I am a product of that, when I left school in 1987 I got a job in the free zone and the condetions there were what I read about in slavery the only difference is I was been paid. a lot of Jamaicans who are not able to get a job now is those that left school in the 1980s without a skill and rsfuse to go back to school to get a education or a skill, the sad truth is not even Bruce is able to help those. you and I know that without education or a skill its been very hard any were in the world today, and you must encourage those you can to do so.Its for this very raeson why so many of ower own are in the prisons of the USA. As I said before only if you are honest you will admitte to this.
    The fact is the National Housing Trust has largely failed in its mandate given the numbers of Jamaican it receives contributions from and the numbers of Jamaican citizens that have been able to get their own home through the NHT.
    Recently the NHT has admitted that its payout is lower than it receipts, so now most of Jamaicans are subsiding some of Jamaicans, as classic case Socialist Redistribution.
    There is no empirical evidence to suggest that had there not been the NHT, that Jamaicans in the same numbers would not have been able to afford there own homes.
    The difference and individual would have had to make choices based on his or own income and may have put off owning his/her own in an economy that is in chaos.
    How do I know that you are not a Labourite?
    Are you saying that because I do not accept the spin of failed Leadership than I am a Labourite?
    Are you saying that accepting high illiteracy rates, high unemployment, high crime rate, is must for being a Comrade?
    As to the Education claims, examine these more clearly, the PNP since Menlie Daze has broken every promise about literacy and education.
    To the extent that the population of Jamaica has increased it is very likely that the gross numbers of citizens educated would have increased, but the Government own figures has shown that more kids and adults remain illiterate and unable to contribute in any manful way, so the grand boast of more persons educated is merely another journey the road of un-intellectual dishonesty.
    Ask Comrade Dr. Clueless; he said young in his Constituency between the ages of 15 to 35 are largely armed, illiterate, unemployed and irredeemable.
If so, to where? The sting of defeat is fresh and so I can understand that people are upset but at some point thinking people in the party will have to come forward and articulate a clear direction for the party or to barrow the words of KD Knight "Di Paaty Gwaan Luse." In this last election the Jamaican people rejected the PNP; its not the end of the world. Shake some things up and come back stronger. Hold the JLP accountable because that will make them better and harder to beat in the next election and hey, thats also good for the country.
    Does the PNP have a "right" to stay in power forever? The democratic process ensures that every party will win and lose. The JLP's time out of power hopefully have given them a good idea of what to do when they regain power and it is the same for the PNP. I supported the JLP not because I hated MAMMA but because Mr. Golding outlined a more clear direction for the country. I don't want the JLP to be in power for 18 years because I have difficulty seeing how one a party system can be good for the country. your name, "Jamaican at heart and mind" suggest that you put the country first. If so, do you? Politics is about comparison and the leader you guys put up this time simply did not rise to the occasion but it does not mean no one in the PNP does. There will another election and I am sure this loss will make the party much stronger the next time. Tearing down PM Golding less than a week into his administration only makes the PNP look unreasonable and further highlight the failings of the PNP over the last 18 years. Let him get his feet wet before launching into the attacks.
    i want to know something, and i do hope there are a few honest and intelligent pnp supporters, if so, i would like to know why was nothing done when omar davies admitted to using the country's money to run their campaign in the 2002 election?
    now, i see that "chat rubbish" one name tanya can't seem to accept the fact that pnp lost. listen, it done and gone, you and no one else cant do anything about it, so please shut up your mouth and stop typing all these utter rubbish.
    also, i see someone spoke of Jamaica becomming 'first world', i dont know which dimension that person lives in or which dream he/she having, but someone needs to slap reality back into them head. which 'first world' country still debate about having good roads?
    as a pnp supporter, how can you back a party that has the country in turmoil, wherein your brothers and sisters are being raped, slaughtered, abused, and more? do you feel happy to read in the papers about 4 year old children being raped and killed? how about your grandparents? listen, my point is not stating that JLP is God's given answer to all those crimes, but fact is, pnp has not been able to control the matters at hand.
    why make a big fuss because your selected party did not win?? how about accepting the fact that another party did better, won, and is now putting into action what plans they have made up and have reviewed over and over for the past 18 years?
    i dont see it fit and fair where so much pressure has placed on JLP to act and bring the country to glory with only one term that another party has been trying to do (or so they say) over the past 18 years?
    are u stating that nothing good is expected from pnp, so they can do as they please?
    come on, the world is moving forward and Jamaica is basically stagnant. let's stop fighting each other and find ways to how we can bring Jamaica back to its rightful name, glory, and reputation. that is what elections are about, not orange, green, blue and whatever other color. anyone can point a finger, but who can fix the problem??
    bless!
    If there was any truth about what you said about Omar then why didnt the JLP say something about it? why didnt the press take it up and keep it on the front pages. listen the PNP has nothing to be embrass about, we have whip the JLP four times on stright and by hugh margin and the jlp after 18 years could hardly win this one. the people of Jamaica have reject the JLP big time and the one time we lost it was just to say take some time, rest and come again.
    We would hope that by now Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has reflected on her speech at Wednesday's handover of homes to residents of her South West St. Andrew constituency under the administration's Inner-City Housing Project.
